Calling all Gamers

I found out my son was one of those people who pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto IV and picked it up at MIDNIGHT! I’m not a gamer but I can relate to the excitement…I love games but the old fashion ones like Clue, Yahtzee but I’m hip with WII!

They say the makers of this game exceed with the realism (so I’m assuming as the cars race you see gas stations in the background with signs at $4.79 a gallon).

Of course there is a lot of controversy about the sex and violence so if you need to know more before purchasing check out my sons take on this game in the comments section (he is 22). It will enlighten you!

P.S – Sorry RT, GTA IV’s opening week sales will definitely beat Hard Candy

Lesson of Life

If you teach your kids one lesson in life I strongly think it is to be their own person. I believe I started drilling this in their heads when the junior high years started, I didn’t want them to fall into peer pressure. I enforced how cool it is to be different and though it may be really hard now for a FEW years later on their WHOLE life would be better. I explained to them how people that try to force or tease other people in some way are usually weak. For some reason it stuck because they are truly individualists. I admire that in anyone, someone who is not afraid to stand out from a crowd. So be a broken record and repeat, repeat and repeat again…be your own person!

P.S…this rule also applies to adults, you’re never to old to learn.

One Ticket Please

I have been going to the movies alone now for about 5 years and I love it. Lately I see more solo viewers and was thinking why the trend is growing.

1. People’s schedules are getting more and more hectic so it’s too hard to coordinate everyone.

2. Cost, 2 people can’t afford those high ticket prices!

3. Woman feeling more independent telling their mate “I don’t want to see another Jackie Chan movie”.

4. Closet germaphobes – not wanting to admit they don’t want to share popcorn with anyone.

5. Bigger theaters…there are 20 movies to choose from so everyone picks a different one.

My 2 big reasons are I am very choosey as to where I sit and I don’t have to worry if the other person is enjoying the movie (I know that’s a weird one)

So if you are one of those people that would feel odd sitting alone, DON’T, it is very relaxing.

Peace Train

I just heard that the peace sign is 50 years old this month…HAPPY BIRHTDAY TO YOU! I am a huge fan of the peace sign, my clothes, house and car adorn them so I have been called a “hippie type”. According to Merriam here is what I learned-

Hippie : a usually young person who rejects the mores of established society.

Peace : a state of tranquillity or quiet: as a: freedom from civil disturbance b: a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom <a breach of the peace>

I don’t get it?

Gripe Session

I’ve added a new page to my blog, “gripe session”. We all have gripes and I would love to know what they are. Of course I will add mine to the list which will be quite easy. It’s sometimes very interesting to know what irks people so start writing!

Allowance & Chores

I feel all children should have household chores starting as early as age 3 along with a weekly allowance. I have seen many adults who can not manage money and wonder if they were ever taught in their youth. Parents…you are teachers! I basically gave my children birthday and Christmas presents, after that anything they wanted they had to buy on their own (minus clothes). Make sure kids also know they don’t get paid for every little thing they do. Some chores are part of being a family, some chores earn allowance and the bigger chores (and I mean BIG) then you can throw some extra $ their way.
I also feel children should buy family members gifts for birthdays and holidays with their own money. Again, this is learning how to budget!
Being able to manage money is one of the great lessons in life that your kids will thank you for teaching them…well maybe not as youths but as adults!

Can we trade and let gay people get married and ban Hollywood people from exchanging vows with eachother. I just saw on MSN that Star Jones, nickname “Bridezilla” is filing for a divorce after having an elaborate “corporate sponsored” wedding. This was just a reminder to me how easily hollywood types get married and then end it so quickly (does Vegas have odds).

Some short timers are Britney Spears (she holds the record) lasting just hours before getting an annulment, Lisa Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage at 3 months, Lisa Marie again and Michael Jackson at 20 months, Charlie Sheen at 4 months, Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman at 5 months, just to name a few.

I took this quote from People “But before you make any plans to send wedding gifts, a source close to the pop star insists it was all a joke that went too far, and that Spears is already making plans to annul the marriage”.

So in conclusion, my son can not get seriously married but Britney can as a joke…good to know.
