Can we trade and let gay people get married and ban Hollywood people from exchanging vows with eachother. I just saw on MSN that Star Jones, nickname “Bridezilla” is filing for a divorce after having an elaborate “corporate sponsored” wedding. This was just a reminder to me how easily hollywood types get married and then end it so quickly (does Vegas have odds).

Some short timers are Britney Spears (she holds the record) lasting just hours before getting an annulment, Lisa Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage at 3 months, Lisa Marie again and Michael Jackson at 20 months, Charlie Sheen at 4 months, Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman at 5 months, just to name a few.

I took this quote from People “But before you make any plans to send wedding gifts, a source close to the pop star insists it was all a joke that went too far, and that Spears is already making plans to annul the marriage”.

So in conclusion, my son can not get seriously married but Britney can as a joke…good to know.

  1. Yes, the irony of it all. That is why people are fighting the good fight for equality. The sanctity of marriage doesn’t seem so fitting a defense against allowing gays to marry when it can be used as a joke between some, and then a novelty experienced in Las Vegas.

Just remember though, when the conservatives fight for their sanctity of marriage that means they are REALLY scared of the gays because apparently we have SO much power that WE CAN change the ENTIRE institution. Talk about Si, Se Puede!

  2. Marriage has nothing to do with love, otherwise gays would be allowed to marry. Marriage is just another institution that was established to help reify patriarchy. Gay marriage is a direct threat to hundreds of years of male hegemony, thus a threat to male privilege.

God forbid us men lose our privilege!

  3. True, marriage is basically so I get half of his stuff and he gets half of mine, medical benefits, hospital rights, etc.
But I still don’t understand why these people are so quick to say I DO? Maybe because they are so rich that paying for a divorce is no big deal.
Had to go find a joke on line, I liked this one-

Some see the move as an attempt to preserve traditional values, while others see it as a cynical ploy to ensure that Vice President Dick Cheney will never have to pay for his gay daughter’s wedding.” —Jon Stewart, on President Bush’s proposal for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage

  4. Hegemony is one of my favorite college learned words ever! I have to throw that around more often. I had forgotton about that!
